Review: This has become one of my favorite all-around cookbooks (low calorie or not).

Pros: Pictures with every recipe

Recipes separated by course and then by calorie count

Everyday recipes and special occasion recipes

Cons: some hard to find ingredients (e.g. gooseberries) - most are garnish though

Lots of usage of ramekins, which not everyone may have

Not digging the binding (too stiff - hard to stay open)The recipes are ok but at times complicated. This is really more for weekend cooking than for everyday meals. This is a Great Low Calorie Recipe book. I have personally made several recipes for my family and they love each of them. The proportions are good and most are easy to make. This book has full color pictures of each recipe. I will not use a cookbook unless there is a picture with the recipe. If the food is visually attractive then I am interesting in making the dish. I wish more cookbooks with include pictures of the dish with the recipes.

I highly recommend the following recipes:

Sticky Ribs

Shrimp Bisque

Stir-Fried Beef with Mango

Pan-Fried Turkey Scallops with Citrus-Honey Sauce

You will enjoy this cookbook!

Review: In The High-Calcium Low-Calorie Cookbook, Betty Marks showcases 250 recipes, each of which is especially relevant for women having to deal with the calcium deficit condition of osteoporosis (bone density loss). A diet of calcium-rich foods combined with a regular exercise program can not only slow bone loss, it can help female posture and skeletal integrity to remain straight and strong. These easy, natural, calcium rich recipes range from Tricolor Yogurt Loaf; Oriental Snow Pea Soup; Scallop and Oyster Salad; Lady Rainbow Okra; and Swiss Potato Torte; to Blue Cheese Dressing; Ricotta Peanut Butter; Cheddar Bread; Banana Berry Rice Pudding; Almond Carob Milk Shake. Acknowledging that children need good calcium dishes for a well balanced diet for young growing bodies, The High-Calcium Low-Calorie Cookbook is a welcome and recommended addition to any and all family kitchen cookbook collections as well!

Review: This is a great book for cooking healthy. If you are looking to drop a few pounds without taking a way all the carbs that you love you have found the right book. The recipes that I have tried have all turned out really well. I just wish there were pictures to accompany the recipes.Though this cookbook does not contain pictures, it contains a lot of great recipes that are quick, easy to follow, and healthy. They have quite a bit of flavor as well, and the portions aren’t skimpy (like the weight watchers cookbooks I’ve found). The recipes are varied and don’t call for unusual ingredients - but you’ll find that this also isn’t your typical American “SAD” fare skinnied down. The recipes are healthy by nature, focusing on healthy ingredients rather than diet-oriented substitutes or trendy low-carb fare.

The cookbook also contains a lot of helpful information on healthy eating and what it takes to lose and/or maintain weight from a healthful, long-term perspective. This is a great addition to my cookbook library. There were a lot of good heart healthy recipes in the cookbook. I would have liked to have had a picture to go along with each recipe. Sometimes, I can tell if I want to cook the recipe by looking at the picture first.Great cookbook! Dieter friendly! I use this cookbook along with the biggest loser cookbook over and over for a little variety.
