Review: i cant even get to the pages i want. i have to spend half hour with the next page button to find recipe i want. this is not a kindle version.Being a diabetic, I am always looking for great recipes. This cook book is an answer to my prayers. It gives me a broader spectrum of selection instead of the normal recipes. I don’t feel like I am tied down to every day foods. With the recipes in this book, I feel like I am not diabetic and am eating sinful foods.A great book with lots of good food. Very healthy, and good for you even if your not diabetic! For me , it was really a very good choice to get this book, and I recommend it to averyone who has to follow a special diet for diabetic, and also anyone who want to learn to eat better.I was impressed with the extent of information about diabetes and cooking that preceeded all of the recipes. What a great resource this has turned out to be for me. I have enjoyed several of the recipes very much and was especially pleased to find that they include more nutritional analysis than other cookbooks I have (including saturated fat, sugars and fibre). Lots of recipes low in fat, sugar, salt and cholesterol and lots of real, whole food instead of processed foods and chemicals. I think this book was worth every cent and recommend it.

Review: I have made more recipes out of this cookbook than any other cookbook I have bought. All the recipes I have tried have been very good. I just made the Pina Colada muffins last night and they were delicious. If you are looking for a Diabetic cookbook with easy recipes and recipes that don’t ask for alot of ingred. Then you have got to get this cookbook!!

I would recommend all of Dawn Hall’s cookbooks. I have also tried recipes from Down home cooking without the down home fat and they are also very good. There is also good information about diabetes which is good to know for the newly diagnosed. Another good reason to get Dawn Hall’s cookbooks is a portion of the proceeds from them go to help Christian Health Ministries. This organization has volunteer doctors and nurses who offer basic health care to people who can’t afford it. So you get great recipes and you help a cause how can you not get this cookbook!!A good selection of recipes that are quick and easy to make. Many items are already in your pantry just waiting for a new way to prepare them.

Friends also tried and liked the recipes. I wound up ordering books for them!

I really like this book. One of the hardest times to control my blood sugar is the holidays. Now I have great diabetic recipes I can make that anyone can eat. They can’t tell they’re “diabetic”. I have all of Dawn Hall’s Busy People’s cookbooks (even the very first ones). I’ve even had to re-order the first cookbook because I used it so much it fell apart. I give them as wedding presents too. Perfect for a young couple on a budget, short on time and needing to find comfort in their new lifestyles. They are always much appreciated. The addition of the diabetic cookbook has been great; I rely on it a lot now that our lives have been affected by diabetes.

This book was easy to understand, told of diabetes, as well as having excellent receipes and short ones as well. NO need to buy alot of ingredients. very well done i would recommend this book to anyone with diabetes

Review: I like this cookbook because it is not only for diabetics but it has recipes that the hole family can enjoy this means no cooking two seprate meals. The recipes are also easy and quick for those of us who are working families. I used this cookbook to make my family dinner when my mother, who has diabetes, visited. The recipes are healthy and great tasteing.I am a newly diagnosed diabetic so I was more than a little afraid about what I was going to be eating. I thought that flavoring food meant throwing a lot of salt in it. This recipe book has been a god send to me. I have been cooking out of it for 3 weeks now, making one meal a day from it at least, and have loved everything. The meals are so flavorful.

One thing that I don’t like about this book is that there are no pictures of what the finished product should look like. I didn’t take a star out of that though since the recipes are so amazingly easy to follow. Not to mention that they are simple recipes that even a novice cook can easily pick up. Believe me, I am a novice cook!

Another important thing in these days is budget. So many of these cookbooks want you to go out and buy exotic things. This isn’t the case with this book. My grocery bill has actually gone down. I just sit down and decide what I am going to have for dinner eat night for two weeks and then write down everything I’m going to need. A good number of times the recipe calls for things that I have on hand anyway. And sometimes the recipes even call for a lot of the same ingredients.

I’m rather shocked that anyone has been disappointed with this book so far. With the nutritional facts and portion sizes broken down for me already, I don’t fear what I am eating so much. For someone newly diagnosed with diabetes, eating is a scary thing. This has really helped me to learn all about portions and how to really ENJOY the food I am putting into my mouth.I am not a diabetic but really love the cookbook. Really great tasting meals and health at the same time. Nicely organized cookbook. Not hard for the newly-diagnosed diabetic to follow. Has good info in it for the diabetic, and what recipes we’ve tried so far have been tasty. Wish it had pictures of the prepared food, though.

Review: Good book and delivered timely at a fair price. However, I purchsed it as a gift for someone, so purposely chose one that had the condition listed as indicative of no markings, etc. When I received it, I opened it randomly and the very first pages I opened to both had bright highlighter marks on them, as did a couple of other pages - so I could not give as a gift, which was the entire purpose of getting it, and had to go out at the last minute to a regular bookstore and pay full price for something similar. Now I’m out both the extra money spoent on the new gift AND the money spent on this that I now have no use for. Entire purpose of purchase was defeated because of overly-positive statement condition of item listed. Very disapointing. But delivered very promtly and was a reasonable price. The Diabetic Dessert Cookbook — Bad directions and serving size directions. Impossible results and conflicting information. Very disappointing.

I was disappointed in this book. The recipes are not easy to follow and they have ingredients that are not easy to fine. I would not recommend it.This is an excellent diabetic dessert cookbook. The recipes use easy to find ingredients, and are easy to follow. It also gives exhcanges. Over a hundred sweet treats for diabetics use no sugar or fructose, relying on recommended sugar substitutes instead. An introduction on the pros and cons of various ’sugar substitutes’ would have been nice; many of the recipes call for this generic substitute without mentioning brand names - or the fact that sucrose turns bitter under heat. Still, the recipes provide a range of options and with a little extra research, diabetics will find them easy to work with.

Review: I am pre-diabetic. That means my blood sugar lab result is close to full-blown diabetes. I’m trying to avoid the full-blown. So, I bought this book. I’m so glad I found it! I love the familiar, homestyle recipes. I haven’t yet tried fructose, an ingredient used. But Splenda has a 50/50 product, half sugar-half Splenda that I’m using. There is a wonderful lowfat, low sugar recipe for scones. Helpful black and white photographs are included. The print is large. Each recipe only takes up one page. There are no extraneous health tips which I don’t need in a cookbook. The recipes are mouth watering. I highly recommend this book! I just hope it never goes out of print. My husband was told he’s prediabetic and needed to get his house in order so to speak. I checked this book out from the library along with several others and this is the one I’m buying. All the recipes are tasty and low in fat. They seem to balance the carbs and the protein so I don’t have to worry about that aspect of cooking. I’m amazed at the things I can cook that I would normally think are verboten to someone watching calories. The mac and cheese was as good as full fat versious I’ve had. We’ve also tried the Spicy Gumbo and thought it was very tasty and all the recipes are quick with not too much preparation. I noted that one review said there were too many carbs, my husband is supposed to eat between 25 and 40 per meal so for us this was perfect. I received this book for Christmas and it a major disappointment. I am a diabetic and very concerned about carbohydrates and associated glucose. This book strives to make every recipe as low-fat as possible, which is good as far as trying to reduce calories and aid weight loss; however, if you are diabetic and concerned with carbohydrates and glucose, it can do more harm than good. The majority of the recipes are laden with high carbohydrates such as bread crumbs, rice, potatoes, high-sugar fruits, and other items. Of the over 250 recipes, there are only 51 that I would even consider for my own use. The others are so outrageously high in carbohydrates that they could possible harm someone. The sad part is that since this book is by the American Diabetes Association, some people will think they can use any recipe in this book and be OK. In this day and age it is unconscionable not to take the total carbohydrate grams of a serving into account when compiling such a book. In my opinion, only one-fifth of the book is of value in that respect, and the other recipes could result in hyperglycemic conditions and should not be used.

One of the most appreciated aspects of the American Diabetes Association is the publishing of cookbooks specifically designed for the needs of diabetics and pre-diabetics who must transition from unhealthy diets to healthy ones. Now in a newly updated and expanded second edition, “The Complete Quick & Hearty Diabetic Cookbook” continues their outstanding series of culinary compendiums by showcasing more than two hundred delicious, low-fat recipes that are thoroughly ‘kitchen cook friendly’ in their preparation (especially when under time constraints for today’s busy schedules) while highlighting ‘old-fashioned good taste’. Ranging from English Beef Stew; Linguine with Garlic Broccoli Sauce; and Oven-Baked Chicken Tenders; to Grilled Salmon with Dill Sauce; Artichokes Parmesan; and Griddle Corn Cakes, “The Complete Quick & Hearty Diabetic Cookbook” is an enthusiastically recommended compendium of palate pleasing, appetite satisfying, diabetes compatible dishes. Another also very highly recommended additions to diabetic friendly cookbook collections from the American Diabetes Association is their new edition of “One Pot Meals For People With Diabetes (9781580402637, $14.95) presenting more than 125 quick and easy recipes for soups, stews, casseroles, and more. Also not to be overlooked in a newly expanded second addition is the American Diabetes Association’s “Quick & Easy Diabetic Recipes For One” (9781580402644, $14.95) which in addition to a culinary wealth of delicious dishes, includes helpful tips on meal planning, shopping, food preparation, and food storage for diabetics living on their own.

Review: This cookbook is great for those of us on the go. I put the recipes together at night before I got to bed put it in the fridge overnight and in the am pop it in the crook pot and I am out the door. When I get home in the pm it is ready to eat. The hole family likes these recipes even though they are geared towards the diabetic. Cook book looks good with interesting recipes, however I have not had it long enough to actually review it (which Amazon has asked me to do at this time).Easy way to cook. Just pop it in the crock pot and GO. Works for me every time. Good, easy, and yummy recipes. Only tried a couple so far, but they were good!Though the dishes look “yummy” most are very high in carbs. As a “Diabetic” cookbook, I was expecting dishes low (as well as very low) in carbs. The very first recipe my eyes landed on has 43 carbs per serving and only 3 grams of fiber. Yikes! I have another book by the same author, Fix It and Forget It Lightly, and most of the recipes are exactly the same with dietary exchanges added. I’m really sorry I spent money on this book. If you need to be careful with carb intake, skip this one.If you’re diabetic you want to bring your cholesterol down so you don’t want to have tons of meat and fat as this book suggests. Also, many of the recipes contain sugar or sugar substitute which are extremely bad for diabetics. I am shocked that this book was published by the American Diabetic Society. People need to eat well and healthily, exercise and bring the weight down. I would suggest if you’re diabetic, you do some research on your own unless your doctor is pretty progressive. There’s a lot of great books out there but this isn’t one of them in my opinion.

Review: I went through this cookbook and bookmarked all the recipes I’d like to try or find interesting. When I got done there were about a dozen or so–and none of them were main courses. His starters sound good (southwestern chicken wraps; mushroom and goat-cheese pizza); his desserts sound good (strawberry cobbler; melon soup); his soups sound good (acorn squash soup; classic beef stew) and even his breakfast foods sound good (granitas; smoothies, frittatas).

But his mains are not for everyday people. How many folks do you know who pop down and pick up duck legs, or a huge shank of lamb? How many only buy fresh herbs (he lists amounts for fresh herbs, but never their powdered equivalents)? And what the hell is his fascination with “spanish onions,” which feature in virtually every recipe?

If you want to make a cookbook for haute cuisine, I think it should be marketed as such; this is not for everyday people, at least not regarding most of the courses which require too much preparation, too many strange ingredients, and access to fresh herbs that, frankly, I’ve never seen outside of being dried and powdered.

Even though there are a few good recipes in it, I’d pass on this one. While this cookbook is enjoyable reading, it is New York-centric and obviously written by a chef who has infinite ingredients at his command. Some ingredients not easily available in the hinterlands, and the cost of some recipes would be astounding, especially some of the fish and seafood dishes. For those who are addicted to reading cookbooks, it’s an entertaining read. However, I didn’t learn much about why the recipes are particularly applicable to diabetics, and I doubt that I will prepare many of the recipes.love it!!!!!!!!!

lots of great recipes,

one better than the next!!!This book is great!I can cook for both of us and enjoy the tasteful meals.

Review: We tried two recipes from this book and they were both pretty bad. I don’t recommend it unless you like bland food.I like this cookbook. I have made the Harvest Beef Burrito and the Lemon Chicken with Bell Peppers and was pleased with both of them. The burritos, made with strips of flank steak, were tasty and filling, and this evening’s meal contained a hint of lemon in the sauce that complemented the chicken and vegetables nicely.

This cookbook is unique because it contains a grocery list for each week of meals. Using the grocery list for June, week three, I found that the cost of ingredients was reasonable, and the items on the list were easy to find.

The prep time is short for each recipe, and at first glance I thought the meals would be ready in thirty minutes or less, but this is not always true. The recipe for harvest beef burritos, with a prep time of fifteen minutes, calls for cooked brown rice. The brown rice had to simmer on the stove for an hour. The lemon chicken lists a prep time of 15 minutes; plus, I was in the kitchen cooking for 20 minutes. I wish the authors had included preparation and cooking time with each recipe.

Overall, the recipes are low calorie, contain balanced nutrition throughout the week, and are easy to prepare. I am pre-diabetic and hoping to lower my blood sugar with a healthy diet and increased exercise. This book is a positive start.

I received the book I purchased in a very timely manner. The quality of the book was everything advertised and I couldn’t be more pleased.I would HIGHLY reccomend buying from this merchant!!Not a bad product, just not as good as I would have expected. The ideas are enough for the week, though, so you can use it as a base and then go on from there.I was excited about the ease of following the recipes. We tried many. Some were good and some, well, were terrible. However, in all, the cookbook provides a wealth of easy recipes, with common food items you can find in your local grocery store.

Review: I was very recently diagnosed with Diabetes type 2. A lot of the information I received on diabetes was very overwhelming. Trying to get a grasp on what diabetes is all about, the tests, the diet, and not to mention the calorie, carb counting, I needed something to be straightforward. Betty came through once again. The cookbook is awesome in that it applies the diabetic information that is essential with some of the best recipes I have seen. Betty Crocker, you rock!WE JUST FOUND OUT A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT MY SWEET HUBBY HAS DIABETIES. SO I CAME HERE TO FIND A COOKBOOK TO HELP ME FEED HIM GOOD NUTRICIOUS MEALS. WHEN I RECIEVED IT I WAS SUPRISED TO FIND INFORMATION ABOUT DIABETES AND IT HELPED ME AND HIM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HIS CONDITION. AS HIS DR. TOLD HIM, “YOU CAN EAT MOST ANYTHING, JUST WATCH YOUR CARBS AND SERVING SIZES, AND BE SURE TO WEIGHT AND MEASURE YOUR FOODS.” SO, HE HAS SO MANY CARBS AND CALORIES A DAY AND I TRY TO FIND THE BEST WAY TO “SPEND THEM” ON THE BEST FOODS. HE IS DOING GREAT ON THIS AND IT HELPS ME ALSO BY PUTTING THE NUMBER OF CARBS IN THE TOP CORNER OF EACH RECIPIE. YEAH!! NO HAVING TO FIGURE THAT OUT.

THERE ARE SOOO MANY GOOD RECIPIES IN HERE TOO. WE DO NOT USE SUGAR, WE USE SPLENDA IN EVERYTHING AND IT TASTES GREAT!! THIS COOKBOOK WAS AN ANSWER TO A PRAYER….I LOVE IT!!!! IT IS JUST AS THE COVER SAYS “EASY AS 1-2-3!!!”

I’ve read the mixed reviews on this product, and I feel like both are merited. If you’re new to cooking on a diabetic diet (or just a healthier diet), then this is a very good place to start. Recipes are simple and use everyday food items, and the nutrition content is included for every meal. If you’re more experienced, though, the recipes are more “food for thought” to provide ideas. There’s PLENTY of room to make them more nutritious–for example, one especially tasty-looking entry calls for a highly refined rice ingredient that provides very little nutritional value. Instead of using it as written, try substituting brown rice and adding your own seasonings (I use a brown and wild rice mixture and add thyme, shallots, etc.). The nice thing about this cookbook is that there’s plenty of flexibility to make a recipe “yours” by modifying ingredients to your own taste and nutritional preferences. There are good recipes as well as information about the diabetic diet in this cookbook. This is an excellent book. It has many yummy recipes that are easy to prepare. There is a catb content rating for each recipe. There is also a great deal of very useful information about diabetes and living with the disease. I would not hesitate to recommend this book.
