This Chili book is definately comprehensive and there are recipes for all the types of Chili you can imagine. Easy to follow recipes as well as nice photos are included as well as detailed information on different types of Chili peppers.

You can pick up a used copy for under $2 making it a real steal!

Review: This is a great book that mixes many recipes with short stories about the history of and antics that go on at International Chili Society contests. Also includes a number of “celebrity” recipes and many others. Would get five stars, but there are no pictures of the finished dishes to guide you by–I like to know what what I just tried to cook at least looks correct!

Review: This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Excellent variety; great ideas that don’t require costly ingredients. The lamb black bean chili is a favorite as is the turkey mole. The introductory section is very helpful with its descriptions of the various chiles and their uses. The Chili Cookbook has dozens of great recipes. It will really make you reconsider the potential of chili. Includes very hot, to not so hot. Includes vegetarian to very meaty. If you enjoy chili or think you might, this book is a bargain at twice the price. Had the Orange and Raisin Chicken Chili tonight and once again, was not disapointed. Highly recommended as an inexpensive Christmas gift.

Review: This recipe book is more for the kitchen sink cook. You know, find what you can around the kitchen put it in a pot and call it “Chilli” Well, I wasn’t impressed. Most of the recipes didn’t even appeal to me. (Uh, ketchup is never an ingredient to put into chilli for any reason….yuk!)I found that basically all chili recipes are really the same with just a pinch of differences. I was inpressed with the personalities that had contributed their own personal recipes. My wife was impressed with the recipes for some of the other Mexican dishes and we will be trying them soon. So this is more that just a book of similar chili recipes—it offers a variety of other dishes

Review: The Vegetarian Chili Cookbook is one of ten chili books I refer to when I want to make chili differently than the two recipes I usually use. We have chili a lot in our house and both my Dad and my Mama have their favorite ways of cooking it. I grew up with their recipes and I have documented them in one of my “Amazon So You’d Like to Guides” and I hope you take a look at it. Both recipes are delicious, but when you’ve had them as often as I’ve had ‘em, you sort of yearn for something a bit different. So, once a week, usually on Saturdays, I break out these ten books and search for a chili recipe I either haven’t tried, or one I haven’t made in a long time. Of course, like all cooks, I fudge a bit with the ingredients, but not all that much. I like to stick pretty close to the recipes, at least the first few times I make it, so I can get an idea of what the writer/recipe maker had intended.

And let me tell you, you’d be surprised at the subtleties there are in a chili recipe. As they say, no two chile recipes were created equal, but the recipes in The Vegetarian Chili Cookbook have never let me down. I’ve got a lot of chili books, have tried a lot of recipes over the years, but the recipes here, like the recipes in my other nine fave books, have been consistently good. You can’t go wrong with The Vegetarian Chili Cookbook. This is such a great book - prior to “going Veg” a few years ago I had a great chili cookbook that was similar to this but with meat all throughout When I first decided to stop eating meat etc I went in search of a new chili cookbook and came across this one and have loved it ever since. There are classic chili recipes from the tex/mex style to different types that are more like veg etable stews to chilis that use ingredients like coffee/wines/tequilla/beer etc. There’s a chapter n really spicy chilis and there’s a neat chapter on things to do with chili leftovers. I’ve been really happy with each ofthe recipes I’ve tried. I have a hard time just sticking to the recipe (love to play/invent in the kitchen) and this book has lots of ideas to draw upon for that purpose as well. There are chilis with beans, chilis with tempeh, chilis with textured soy, etc. The recipes have fun facts about chili sprinkled in and there’s even a recipe for homemade chili podwer. The ingredients are integresting and flavorful throughout. Definitely a 5 star cookbook for those with a hunger for chili!Simple, Delicious and Inventive. What more can you want from a cookbook! Chili is great work-day meal in the sense that it is one-dish, it reheats well, freeze well, and it actually tastes better on 2nd, or 3rd day!

This book opens my eyes on the ingredients that can go into a chili pot: orange, apple, raisin, tequila …etc. If you think chili all tasts the same, try this book. It is also healthful. Every recipe uses about 1 TB of olive and that’s it! And trust me, you won’t even care the chili is not fatty, because it tastes so good. I am actually not a vegetarian. So when I have left-over meat, I jump them in the chili pot. No problem.

Most of all, this book is E-Z. Every recipe may have a long list of ingredients (mostly spices), but to cook it is pretty much: dump everything in, stir, and walk away.

Review: A gift for my husband, who is forever trying new chili recipes…he found this book very useful and found many good recipes. The Ultimate Chili Cookbook is one of ten chili books I refer to when I want to make chili differently than the two recipes I usually use. Review: I really enjoy cooking, especially desserts, but most books i’ve looked at are dry and don’t create a range of desserts to choose from. I really loved the entire book and after having it only a short period of time i think i’ve used almost every recipe. This book is also fabulous for a wide range of ages, the steps are written simply so youger kids can have their first dessert turn out perfect, yet more experienced cooks love the great recipes.

So all i can say is it’s worth the time and money to purchase this book.

Review: I really like this dessert cookbook. Both Mary Cech and Jennie Schacht are knowledgeable and provide some great information with their recipes and wine recommendations.

On page 108, the Chocolate Currant Tartlets were to die for. The Banyuls and Port wine recommendations were spot on. I served the Apple Citrus Custard Tart for New Years without the wine and the dessert itself was wonderful. The recipes are just awesome…but

…the design is lame. All the print is virtually the same color, the titles, the recipes, the wine recommendations, the lines, and it’s almost the same font and size. The page just runs together. The em dash page layout and design by Chronicle Books was a poor choice here.

The “Making The Match” wine insets should have been blocked with a different color and font so they stood out as a true side note rather than looking like part of the recipe. The pages jump from single layout to double layout and then back again and it’s very hard to tell if you’re suppose to read down or across because it’s both.

Also, the pictures are all semi-blurry. They are not crystal clear photographs. I don’t know if it was suppose to an artistic statement but it’s an artistic blunder. I really dislike the off-centered blurry pictures. The book would have been so much better with sharp pics of the desserts as well as the glasses of wine.

The book is excellent, there are no issues with the desserts or wine pairings. It’s the actual design that is really the downfall of this book. I hope the authors find a new publisher and remake this cookbook to be a 10, it’s now a 7 because of the amateurish appearance.

Regardless, this would be a great book to give as a gift with a bottle of Late Harvest Riesling or a Doisy-Vedrines Sauternes. This is another winning cookbook from Chronicle Books. The authors provide very interesting, digestible information on wines and then offer a variety of dessert recipes with wine pairing suggestions. Nearly every recipe is accompanied by a full page, color photo. The recipes are inventive but do not require overly expensive or exotic ingredients or equipment.

I really liked the organization of the recipes by flavor which reminded me of Baking by Flavor (Lisa Yokelson) and Pure Dessert (Alice Medrich). Recipe chapters include Stone Fruits; Berries; Citrus; Apple & Pear; Tropical Fruits; Dried Fruits; Cream; Caramel, Honey & Spice; Nuts; Chocolate; and Finishing Touches (sauces and garnishes).

This book along with a bottle of dessert wine would be a wonderful hostage gift. And buy another copy for yourself. You won’t regret it!This is a notch up from the usual Chronicle Book publication! I say this because I often find that this publisher puts out cookbooks that are all “beautiful pictures” and very little information. It is clear that the authors worked really hard to deliver good information and content and tips - this book isn’t just a vehicle for the photographs. There is lots to read and absorb for each recipe, and the recipes themselves look extremely do-able in one’s own humble kitchen. I bought a copy after glancing through it in the bookstore because I know this is definitely a book that I can use (and not just leave around looking pretty). I would say, though, that it functions really well on its own as a dessert cookbook - I’m less interested in the wine pairings - which would interest only those who are sticklers for such things!A marriage made in heaven: that of wine and desserts. What a wonderful idea!! The bringing together of two of the world’s best offerings (wine and dessert) is a decadent inspiration that Ms Cech and Ms Schacht bring to perfect fruition with mouth watering recipes and superb wine suggestions to accompany them. The book is very friendly even for a novice like me in the art of wine appreciation, and it gives easy to follow recipes. I am up to the challenge of indulging my craving for sweets and wine! I plan to send a book to all my friends and family to create a network where all the recipes will be cooked or baked and later shared and combined with the wine suggestions to improve our palates, delight our spirits while giving us the perfect excuse to get together. I have tested a few of the recipes, and the results have not disappointed. I recommend this book greatly and think at the very least it makes a perfect gift. Worth it for the Chocolate Souffle Roulade alone! But there are 54 other recipes too.

The other reviews already have told you all the logical, rational things you need to know. Now for emotion: fabulous recipes and pairing advice that takes the mystery out of what to do with those little bottles of sweet wine that your friends have taken to bringing as hostess gifts. And it’s a really gorgous book besides–the photo of the Raspberry Baked Alaska on page 55 looks for all the world like Marilyn Monroe took the bite and left lipstick all over the meringue. My Christmas shopping is done.

Review: A friend of mine had this book, so I looked it up on Amazon and found it for a very good price. I am always looking to healthy alternatives for shortening and other “bad for you” fats in my baking. Combined with another book at also a very good price, the purchase of both books qualified it for free shipping. Great deal and very fast shipping as an added bonus.Cakes made with oil are moist and taste great, so there really is no need to bake with butter or shortening. This book contains healthier versions of familiar favorites. We have big-time sweet teeth at our house, but also bad genes for cholesterol. I liked this recipe book so much I bought one for all my siblings. My family especially likes the Simple Brownies and Cinnamon Twisties. The recipes are laid out well and easy to follow, and it’s great knowing the desserts I make aren’t as bad as what I used to make. I have tried several of these recipes and they are very good and easy to make. The comfort cake is to die for and I don’t make chocolate cake any other way now! Also, a favorite is the blueberry muffin recipe with the crumble topping. My family loves them.I *LOVE* desserts and am delighted that Micki has done the research to make them more healthy. I have always wanted a healthier pie crust recipe and now I have it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Review: I grew up in a southern country home where Sweet things where a part of every meal. Probably why I am diabetic. JoAnna Lund won me over with her book,” Cooking Healthy With A Man In Mind” where I found her “Banana Split Pie.” This is a wonderful and satisfying dessert. Her “Healthy Exchanges Diabetic Dessert Cookbook” is a must for diabetics. These desserts are satisfying and a delight to prepare. Ms. Lund is a master at simplifying cooking using products you normally find in the cupboard and around the kitchen. I am a big fan of her style of cooking. I recommend all diabetics consider this book.
